Teacher Profiles

Marina Jung

Marina is our senior teacher. She trained at the Iyengar Yoga Institute London. Marina has been teaching yoga for over 20 years and holds a Senior Intermediate Level Two Iyengar teaching certificate.

Marina has been teaching workshops nationally and internationally for many years. Formerly running teacher training programmes and personal development in Western Australia, she is currently conducting the teacher training programme at Clifton Hill Yoga Studio.

Patrick Costello

Patrick has been practising yoga for 15 years and teaching since 2001, and holds a Junior Intermediate Lv 2 teaching certificate. He has studied with the Iyengars in Pune along with senior Teachers in Australia.

For the last 13 years Patrick has worked full-time as a Naturopath and Remedial Massage Therapist. This experience, along with his yoga practice, help him to communicate with yoga students how to work intelligently to avoid the common problems he treats daily.

Vaughan Allan

Vaughan Allan

Vaughan is one of the owners of CHYS. He has practised yoga since 1995 and holds a Junior Intermediate Lv 1 teaching certificate. Vaughan also holds an Art degree in photography and has travelled extensively.

Tim Bosworth

Tim is one of the owners of CHYS. He gave up corporate life in Melbourne to become a yoga teacher.

Tim started practising in 2000, initially to combat injuries caused by football and running, and holds a Junior Intermediate Lv 1 teaching certificate. The football, running and injuries are gone; but the passion for yoga still burns strong.

Rosie Hallinan

Rosie started yoga at Clifton Hill in 1998 with Frank Jesse as her teacher. She completed teacher training in 2001 and obtained her certification in 2006. Rosie has also studied with the Iyengars in Pune.

Rosie worked as a nurse for 26 years. She has Postgraduate qualifications in midwifrey , cancer nursing and a Graduate Diploma in advanced nursing, specialising in cancer and pallative care.

Rosie's approach to health is now through yoga, believing that with a disciplined and intelligent practice will come physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Lee Brennan

Lee began practising yoga in 2001 at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in London. From 2004 he completed his teacher training over 3 years at the Clifton Hill Yoga Studio with Frank Jesse and has been teaching here ever since. He continues ongoing training with senior teachers in Australia, currently holding a Junior Intermediate Lv 1 teaching certificate. 

Lee mixes yoga teaching with his original profession in finance, which he continues on a part-time basis. He specialises in researching and supporting ethically focused investments.

Alan Talbot

Alan had a mid-life crisis at 40. Over several years he gave up smoking, reduced drinking, became vegetarian, started running and trekking, and took up yoga.  Alan continued his career as a professional accountant, but yoga became an increasingly important part of his life, especially as it helped with rugby and marathon running injuries.

At age 60 Alan retired and did Iyengar teacher training with Frank Jesse at Clifton Hill Yoga Studio, becoming a certified teacher in 2002. For over 30 years he has studied with several senior teachers, including the Iyengars in Pune, and also explored different styles of yoga.  Alan has been teaching Iyengar yoga for 10 years and is one of the owners of CHYS.

Jo Remenyi

Jo started practising Iyengar Yoga at the age of 15.  As a teenager she read the book "Light on Yoga" and never looked back.  She started practising daily by age 19 and took-up teacher training with Marina Jung when she was 25.  Jo has an Introductory Level 1 pass and is continuing with her training this year.

Jo works part-time as a vestibular audiologist assessing inner ear dizziness.  She believes that yoga can help people learn to cope better with thier dizziness and health in general.  Yoga has taught her much resilience and shaped her to be the person she is today.

Cora Evans

Cora began practising regularly at Clifton Hill Yoga Studio in 2008 after dabbling with yoga for a few years whilst swimming and running. She began teacher training at CHYS in 2010. Cora holds an Introductory Level 1 pass and is working towards her next certificate.

Cora has worked in education settings with children since 2004, including time as a Kindergarten teacher. She is currently studying Primary teaching and is enjoying adapting her teaching skills to a different audience. Cora is continuing work on her backbends and her long division!

We are one of the only yoga schools in Melbourne dedicated to teaching solely in the Iyengar method.

All teachers at the Studio are dedicated practitioners of yoga and are certified Iyengar Yoga teachers by the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India.

To gain your certification in Iyengar yoga requires at least 5 years of dedicated practice, with the minimum teaching qualification taking 2 years of dedicated study.

Marina, Patrick, Vaughan, Tim, Rosie, Lee, and Alan, are all certified Iyengar yoga teachers.
